about
[DARYL], the long-standing Dallas, TX band, has entertained audiences since 1999, harnessing their love of 80's music and cinema and combining it with vintage '80s synths and catchy, ferocious post-punk rock'n'roll. After releasing albums in both the USA and Japan, including 3 full-length albums and 4 EP's, the band embarked on a lengthy hiatus, though remaining close while pursuing other artistic projects. [DARYL] played shows periodically over the years before audaciously deciding to combine the talents of both long-term lineups and officially reforming as an 8-piece band in 2018 after being asked to play Dallas' Homegrown Festival with Explosions in the Sky, The Black Angels and Roky Erickson. After the festival, lead singer Dylan Silvers started writing songs that would become the band's most ambitious recording project yet:
A double album that split the band's signature sound into two separate entities. If John Hughes and John Carpenter made a Movie together [DARYL] would be the soundtrack. In addition to touring the US for years and sharing stages with Cheap Trick, The Black Keys, Ash, Old 97's, Spoon and more, the band has worked with Grammy winning producers Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power) and John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sigur Rós, Sleater Kinney).
[DARYL] has also collaborated over the years with members of Psychedelic Furs, Tim Kasher (Cursive), Old 97s, Paper Chase, Riverboat Gamblers, The Toadies and The Rentals.
lyrics
This summertime, might just get physical
I'll sneak out and come to your front door
As I walk to the class, will you notice me?
Or am I just another casualty?
Summer time should not feel like suicide.
Saturday, I should be holding you all night.
Summer should not be a waste of time
Saturday should be in the dark, upside down
Goddamn, no one should feel like this.
You might be too much for me
But I might be just what you need
Will you set the pace?
Turn off the lights and telephone
Will you think of me when I’m gone?
Will you touch yourself when you're alone?
Summer time should not feel like suicide
Saturday, I should be holding you all night.
Summer should not be a waste of time.
Saturday should be in the dark, upside down.
On Sunday morning.
Will you wake up and be alone?
It's not what I want
It's not what you need
Do you wanna be a casualty?
Wasted.
You put a gun, a gun inside my head.
Casualty. Wasted
You put a gun, a gun inside my head.
It's your city tonight. It's your city.
